Defensor Sporting Manages To Earn A Point In Their Intense Game Against Independiente Medellin

After tying against the Brazilian Sao Paulo in a close game, Independiente Medellin faced Defensor Sporting in their home on Tuesday night. Throughout the game, Medellin pressured in the midfield but was unable to score against Defensor Sporting's Defense.

Medellin struggled to score as they moved down the field while Defensor Sporting looked for a counter attack that would give them a valuable 3 points like in the 69th minute of the game when Vera shot the ball and Bobadilla threw himself for the ball. Both teams had good opportunities, but the goalkeepers still managed to block the ball from entering the net. Martin Silva managed to block the ball in the final and most decisive minutes of the game, and saved his team from defeat.

Defensor Sporting's coach Jorge Da Silva mentioned that the team's main objective was to earn at least a tie, and they showed that with their well structured defense.

In the 65th minute of the game Medellin had what was probably the closest opportunity to score a goal in the game, when midfielder Arbodela, who substituded Candia in the 1st minute of the second half, shot the ball and was rejected by the post. The ball then bounced on the goalkeeper's back, and was only but a few meters from the goal.

Defensor now leads group 4 in the "Copa Libertadores de America" with 4 points, Medellin comes in second with 2, Sao Paulo has 1 point, and America de Cali has 0.

In two weeks (March 10, 2009) Medellin will play against their compatriots, America de Cali, and Defensor will seek a victory over Sao Paulo in three weeks (March 18, 2009).
